MaliaTec is launching an open innovation challenge to develop an AI-powered early warning system to protect Lebanon’s forests from wildfires and illegal activities.
The objective is to design an integrated solution that can detect early-stage wildfire gases, identify high-risk sounds such as chainsaws and gunshots, and transmit real-time alerts to a central monitoring station. GPS coordinates would then be automatically dispatched to the nearest first responders for rapid intervention.
Focus Area:
IoT Hardware & Systems: Design low-power, climate-resilient sensors and reliable communication infrastructure suitable for Lebanon's diverse terrain.
AI & Machine Learning: Train models to detect early wildfire gases and risky acoustic signatures while minimizing false positives.
Environmental Science: Define fire-risk thresholds, analyze seasonal vegetation patterns, and integrate ecosystem and socio-economic insights.
National Collaboration: Engage academia, government, GIS specialists, and civil society to build a coordinated response network.
Call to Action:
We invite engineers, researchers, data scientists, environmental experts and innovators to co-create Lebanon's first AI-powered Digital Forest Ranger.
Detect early. Act fast. Protect our forests.
